| AFTER 1968; CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS LEGACY This exhibition showcases six African American artists and one artists' collective whose works explore how the actions and ideologies of the civil rights movement continue to be relevant today. Exhibiting artists are: Deborah Grant, Leslie Hewitt, Otabenga Jones and Associates, Adam Pendleton, Jefferson Pinder, Nadine Robinson and Hank Willis Thomas. Originally organized by the High Museum in Atlanta, After 1968 is the companion exhibition to Road to Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement which will be present concurrently at the Skirball Cultural Center. |

| AN IDEA CALLED TOMORROW-1 The exhibition features fourteen multi-media works by fifteen artists who present visions of what a sustainable and civil futuremust address for a healthy tomorrow. Exhibiting artists are: Kim Abeles, Jane Castillo, Abdelali Dahrouch, Joyce Dallal, Charles Dickson, Graham Goddard, John Halaka, Nobue Betty Kano, Kwahuumba and Seneferu, Sonia BasSheva-Manjon, Yong Soon Min, Dominique Moody, John Outterbridge and Ingrid Von Sydow. An Idea Called Tomorrow will be on view both at CAAM (1) and the Skirball Cultural Center (2). |

| HARLEM OF THE WEST: JAZZ, BEBOP & BEATNIK Celebrate the Fillmore District of San Francisco in the 1940's and 50's and the early 60's where Bebop jazz cross-pollinated with the Beat Movement and avant garde film making to make a dynamic scene.� The exhibit includes a phograps from the time with celebrities who frequented the clubs, including Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Lady Day and many others.� Also included are Harry Smith films with music by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker and poetry of African American beatnik Bof Kaufman. |

Learn how the process of cire perdue or lost wax casting was achieved. | INSIDE BUFFALO A full length documentary about the 92nd infantry division, an African American segregated unit of 15,000 soldiers who served in Italy during WWII. Called "Buffalo Soldiers," those who survived found that their contributions went unnoticed upon their return to the United States of America. |

| AFRICAN AMERICANS NATURALLY/WORKSHOP Black firefighters protected the public here in Los Angeles, but the conditions under which they served were difficult. The trailblazers included George W. Bright, hired in 1897, as the first Black firefighter on the Los Angeles Fire Department. An all-Black company was formed to prevent Bright from supervising whites.
